Without Backlinks You Are Doomed Before You Even Start

I guess we all know by now that if we don't have enough backlinks then we ain't gonna feel the Google love! You can have the best website, with the best on-page optimisation, but if you don't have enough backlinks then your seo experience is unfortunately over before it's even begun. If you want to be better than the competition, you have to analyse them and see where their backlinks are coming from, and then set backlinks from the same or similar websites, but get even more of them, and make sure the search engines find them.

There is often some confusion surrounding backlinks and linkbuilding. There are, generally speaking, two kinds of links, backlinks and reciprocal links. Reciprocal links are like a two way street, traffic, in this case internet traffic can flow both ways down the street, and these kind of links between your website and another arn't great for your SERP's. A backlink, or one-way link on the other hand only points from another website to your website, it's a one-way street with the traffic only flowing in one direction, towards your site. Backlinks are the backbone of any credible seo campaign and your website needs them!

When you set out on a backlinking campaign it is important to note that a variety of links can be of benefit to any seo campaign, but take note that there are certain types of backlinks that will boost your websites search engine visibility much more readily than others. Chief amongst these are the domain extensions .gov and .edu which are the website suffixes of governmental and educational domains, these one-way links stand head and shoulders above any other kind of backlink. Even better if the link comes from a high page rank website, it will gather Google's attention quicker and give more authority to the link.

Another important consideration to take in to account besides PR of the links is their relevance. This means that a backlink that comes from a website that is relevant to your own site will have more relevance than a backlink that origionates from a website that has little or no relevance to your own. For example, if your website is all about skincare and has a backlink pointing to it from a company website that sells skincare creams. Google and the other search engines will see this as highly relevant and will accord these type of backlinks a lot of weight. But, if for example your skincare website received links from a banking website, then these will be seen as not very relevant.

If your website's on-page search engine optimisation is correct then you have gone as far as you can go organically without looking at getting as many highly relevant, good quality backlinks as possible to point at your website, these internet "votes" will go a long way to getting you as close to #1 as possible.
